Your website is currently blocking some AI chatbots at the network level even though you're inviting them in your settings, so those assistants can't read your pages directly and instead send customers to competitor listings. You also don't have machine-readable vehicle data or a map of your inventory that AI agents can access, which means assistants can't check your stock or pull specific vehicle details even if they wanted to. The single most important thing to fix is creating a sitemap of your vehicle pages, this is cheap to do and will immediately let AI assistants discover and cite your actual inventory instead of third-party sites.

vehicles an AI crawler can read today

readiness checks your site passes

The headline issues
  • No Vehicle structured data was found in the HTML returned to the crawler.

  • There is no endpoint an assistant can query.

  • No sitemap listing your vehicle pages, and no llms.txt or agent-discovery files.

  • This is promotional boilerplate and financing disclaimer text with no actual vehicle inventory details, no specific VINs, mileage, condition, photos, or individual vehicle descriptions.

  • Your site refuses bingbot, PerplexityBot at the network layer, even though your robots.txt invites them in — so engines that depend on those crawlers (ChatGPT through Bing, and Perplexity) can't read your pages directly and fall back to third-party listings like AutoTrader.

The stake

Buyers now ask AI to shop dealer lots. Today, yours answers with a fraction.

An assistant can read part of your inventory, but the gaps below are where a buyer’s assistant gives up and recommends a competitor instead of you.

When AI sends that shopper to AutoTrader or a rival instead of you, the deal walks. On a used car that’s commonly $1,500–$2,500 in front-end gross — illustrative, but it’s the math behind every buyer the assistant hands to someone else.

Prove it yourself

Don’t take our word for it — have ChatGPT check us.

Copy a ready-made prompt and paste it into ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity (with browsing on). It hands them every finding below and asks them to independently confirm or dispute each against your site — then whether the fix is worth it. We tell them to be critical, so a yes is real.

When buyers ask AI for your cars

We ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude the questions your real inventory matches, and trace who they recommend — you, an aggregator, or a rival.

AI can reach your site. It just isn’t referencing you.

When buyers asked AI for cars saultnissan.ca actually has, an aggregator or a rival was the answer in 4 of 4 checks near Ontario, Canada.

Here are the **best nearby used Nissan options under $5,000** I found for Ontario, Canada. The strongest matches are in the Toronto/Mississauga/Brampton area, since the Ontario results are mostly clustered there[3][4][6][7]. | Vehicle | Price | Mileage | Dealer | Distance / Area | Listing | |---|---:|---:|---|---|---| | **2012 Nissan Versa 1.8 SL** | **$2,350 + tax & lic** | **217,403 km** | Kenny U-Pull | Ottawa, ON | Carpages.ca result[4] | | **2009 Nissan Sentra 2.0 S Auto** | **$2,937 + tax & lic** | **114,750 km** | Achilles Mazda | Ontario inventory | Carpages.ca result[4] | | **2013 Nissan Rogue** | **$3,800 + tax & lic** | not shown in result | Tabangi Motors | Mississauga, ON | Tabangi Motors result[6] | | **2010 Nissan Altima 2.5 S** | **$3,999 + tax & lic** | **162,400 km** | Why Buy New Motors | Toronto, ON | Carpages.ca result[4] | | **2015 Nissan Rogue SV AWD** | **$4,000** | **274,272 km** | Dealer not shown in result | London, ON | CarGurus result[5] | | **2010 Nissan Sentra 2.0 S** | **$4,450** | **129,150 mi** | Johnny’s Motors Inc. | Fontana, CA | TrueCar result[1] | | **2012 Nissan Rogue S** | **$4,888** | **187,890 km** | Dealer not shown in result | Toronto, ON | CarGurus result[3] | | **2013 Nissan Rogue SV 4dr SUV** | **$4,950** | **113,355 mi** | dealership in Fontana, CA | Fontana, CA | Edmunds result[2] | If you want the **best local Ontario, Canada picks**, I’d start with these: - **2013 Nissan Rogue at Tabangi Motors in Mississauga** for **$3,800 + tax & licensing**[6]. - **2009 Nissan Sentra at Achilles Mazda** for **$2,937 + tax & licensing**[4]. - **2010 Nissan Altima at Why Buy New Motors in Toronto** for **$3,999 + tax & licensing**[4]. - **2012 Nissan Versa at Kenny U-Pull in Ottawa** for **$2,350 + tax & licensing**[4]. A couple of notes: - The search results include both **Ontario, Canada** and **Ontario, CA** listings, so I filtered toward the Canadian ones where possible[2][3][4][5][6][7]. - Several listings are from marketplace aggregators rather than dealer sites, so the **dealer name or exact inventory page** is not always fully exposed in the result text[3][4][5]. If you want, I can narrow this to: - **best sedan only** - **best SUV only** - **closest to Toronto / Mississauga / Brampton** - **best deal under $3,000**

It can be challenging to find a used Nissan under $5,000 in Ontario, Canada, but here are a few specific vehicles that fit your criteria: * **2013 Nissan Rogue** * **Price:** $3,800 + Tax & Licensing * **Dealership:** Tabangi Motors * **Location:** Mississauga, Ontario * **Link:** While a direct link to the specific car isn't available in the search results, you can likely find it by searching their inventory on the Tabangi Motors website (they have a "Used Cars Under $5000 in Mississauga, Ontario" section). * **2010 Nissan Altima 2.5** * **Price:** $5,000 (as is) * **Location:** Barrie, Ontario * **Listing Platform:** Kijiji * **Link:** You can search for this listing on Kijiji Ontario by searching for "2010 Nissan Altima 2.5 $5000 as is" or browsing used cars under $5000 in Barrie. The listing also mentions a price of $5,500 with safety. While not specifically priced under $5,000 in the snippets, CarGurus.ca also indicates that a **2014 Nissan Sentra**, **2013 Nissan Rogue**, and **2009 Nissan Rogue** have appeared in their "Used Cars for Under $5,000 in Ontario" listings. You may find current listings for these models by filtering their inventory. Remember to always verify the vehicle's condition, mileage, and history (e.g., through a CARFAX Canada report) before making a purchase. Prices are subject to change, and "as is" sales mean the vehicle is sold without any warranties.

You have the cars. AI just can’t retrieve and recommend them as you, so it leans on aggregators and ranks rivals above you. VIN Index makes every VIN structured, retrievable, and answer-ready, so you become the recommended, cited source and the lead comes to you.

How we tested: we asked each engine’s real search stack the questions above, localized to your market, 3 times each. This is representative of how these engines retrieve, not a copy of any one shopper’s screen (their answers vary run to run).

The questions buyers actually ask

Shoppers don’t search by VIN — they ask for “a 7-seat SUV that’s good on gas” or “payments under $500.” Each question can only be answered from details a crawler can read on your page.

What buyers askYour siteVIN Index

“7-seat SUV that’s good on gas”

Can’t answer — missing Seating, Fuel economy.

“Payments under $500/mo on my credit”

Answerable — every detail it needs is readable.

“AWD with Apple CarPlay”

Can’t answer — missing Features.

“Priced below market for this trim”

Can’t answer — missing Market context.

A query is only answerable from the attributes a crawler can read. VIN Index enriches every vehicle with seating, fuel economy, drivetrain, financing, and market context — so the questions buyers actually ask all land on your inventory.

The technical detail

The six checks behind the grade, with the evidence for each. Hand this to whoever manages your website — every finding is a provable fact about what an AI crawler received.

Structured data

Can AI trust your vehicle facts?

Failing

No Vehicle structured data was found in the HTML returned to the crawler. Engines can read prices on screen, but have nothing machine-readable to trust or cite.

The fixVIN Index does this

VIN Index emits validated Vehicle and Offer schema on every listing, so engines can trust and cite your price, mileage, and VIN.

See the detail

What we checked

Whether your pages carry machine-readable structured data (schema.org Vehicle and Offer) an engine can quote with confidence.

How we tested

We parse a real vehicle detail page for JSON-LD Vehicle/Offer markup, including price and currency.

What it means

Without structured data an engine can read your prose but can’t reliably extract price, mileage, or specs, so it hedges or skips you.

Agentic capability

Can AI do anything with your inventory?

Failing

There is no endpoint an assistant can query. An agent that wants to search your stock, pull a VIN, or check availability has no machine interface to call, only a webpage built for human eyes.

The fixVIN Index does this

VIN Index exposes an agent endpoint and a live feed, so an assistant can search your stock, pull a VIN, and start a lead, not just read a page.

See the detail

What we checked

Whether an assistant has a machine interface to act, search your stock, pull a VIN, request financing, or submit a lead.

How we tested

We look for an agent endpoint (MCP / WebMCP) or structured action declarations exposed by your site.

What it means

Without one, an assistant can describe your cars but can’t do anything, so every buyer action dead-ends at a human form.

llms.txt / sitemap / discovery

Can AI discover you the modern way?

Failing

No sitemap listing your vehicle pages, and no llms.txt or agent-discovery files. AI agents have no machine-readable map to your inventory. A sitemap that enumerates every VDP is the cheapest, highest-leverage gap to fix.

The fixVIN Index does this

VIN Index publishes llms.txt, a sitemap, and IndexNow pings, giving agents a machine-readable map straight to every VIN.

See the detail

What we checked

Whether you publish the discovery files agents look for, llms.txt, an agent card, and a sitemap that actually lists your vehicle pages.

How we tested

We fetch /llms.txt and agent-discovery files, and walk your sitemap to see whether it enumerates individual VDP URLs.

What it means

These conventions are emerging with no proven citation lift yet, but a sitemap that lists every VDP is how index crawlers find your whole lot.

Content quality

Is your vehicle text worth citing?

Failing

This is promotional boilerplate and financing disclaimer text with no actual vehicle inventory details, no specific VINs, mileage, condition, photos, or individual vehicle descriptions. The content lacks any citation-ready facts about actual cars in stock.

The fixVIN Index does this

VIN Index enriches each listing with a factual condition narrative and market context an assistant can lift verbatim into an answer.

See the detail

What we checked

Whether your visible vehicle descriptions are fact-dense and self-contained enough for an engine to quote.

How we tested

We score the visible inventory text for specific, complete, citable detail, real specs and no mid-sentence truncation.

What it means

Thin or truncated descriptions give an engine nothing quotable, so it summarizes a competitor’s listing instead of yours.

Replace generic offer text with concrete vehicle listings: 'This 2026 Nissan Rogue S (VIN: XXXXX) with 150 miles, black exterior, cloth interior is priced at $37,502. Features include backup camera, Bluetooth, and all-weather mats.' Include real photos, mileage, trim specifics, and individual pricing tied to actual inventory.

Page rendering

Can AI read your vehicle pages?

Needs work

Your site refuses bingbot, PerplexityBot at the network layer, even though your robots.txt invites them in — so engines that depend on those crawlers (ChatGPT through Bing, and Perplexity) can't read your pages directly and fall back to third-party listings like AutoTrader. But you still allow OAI-SearchBot, Googlebot, so engines that read those indexes — Google's AI Overviews and Gemini, and Claude through Brave — can find and cite your own pages. The fix is to allowlist the blocked crawler user-agents (almost always a Cloudflare/WAF bot rule) so every engine reaches you, not just some.

The fixVIN Index does this

VIN Index republishes every car as static, server-rendered HTML, so a crawler reads your whole lot without running a line of JavaScript.

What we checked

Whether your vehicles are present in the raw HTML an AI crawler receives, and whether the named AI crawlers are allowed in.

How we tested

We fetch your page with no JavaScript (the way GPTBot and ClaudeBot read), count the readable vehicles, and probe whether specific AI crawler user-agents get through.

What it means

If your cars only appear after JavaScript runs, most AI crawlers see an empty page and have nothing to cite when a buyer asks.

Robots / crawler access

Is AI even allowed in?

Passing

Your robots.txt allows the AI crawlers that matter. Nothing here is turning assistants away.

What we checked

Whether your robots.txt permits the crawlers that feed AI search (and doesn’t quietly wall them out).

How we tested

We read your robots.txt and check the rules that apply to AI and search engine user-agents.

What it means

A disallow here removes you from the indexes AI assistants pull from, no matter how good the rest of your site is.

Search index crawlers

Build the indexes ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot answer from. A block here is the serious one — it keeps you out of AI search.

On-demand fetchers

Fetch your page when a shopper asks an assistant to “check this dealer.” A block breaks that.

Training crawlers

Crawl to train models. Blocking these only opts you out of free training — you stay citeable in search.

VIN Index republishes your inventory as static, schema-rich, agent-queryable pages, cited back to you. Most dealers are live in about an hour.

The simulations above show what an AI assistant would likely receive from your site as it is structured today. Vehicles in the VIN Index panels are examples built from makes we detected, not a live listing.
